Cougar Town Pre-Show; Cox Tingler
Posted on 09. Sep, 2009 by John Roblinsky in Cougar Town

I watch a ton of TV and I haven’t seen a series in the last two years that hasn’t referenced cougars. Even “Family Ties”–the TV series from the 80s–had a reunion show just so that they could throw in a cougar joke, j/k. However, it looks like the cat-calling has some staying power as more TV shows, books, and blogs cite and accept the phenomena.
Need more proof? Tune into ABC on September 23rd for the new TV series “Cougar Town.” Like the third coming of Christ, Courteney Cox reappears to star as Jules Cobb, a recently divorced single mother who is obsessed with her age. My understanding of the show so far–I’ve done no research–is that she hunts down younger men to make her feel younger. Also, I’m hearing the there’s a sports team called the cougars in the town so it has a double meaning, cheeky.
From my years of watching “Friends” reruns, I’m not sure if Courteney Cox is going to do it for me in this show. I could see Jennifer Aniston in this role as she’s a real life cougar, hunting down John Mayer. But Cox’s husband is only six years her junior; though one could argue David Arquette is still a teenager emotionally.
What I’m really hoping to find by watching this show are insights into the modern American cougar’s persona. Will this show seek to write the book on the stereotypical cougar? Will cougars that watch the show try to emulate these values? Is it asking too much of Cougar Town’s Producer Bill Lawrence to give me a glimpse of the cougar’s psyche as he provided emotional insights into the lives of residents in his previous show Scrubs?
In the coming weeks as the show airs HuntingCougar.com will aim to provide our readers with in depth coverage on the show. Not as much as a Lost blog might, but we will be doing recaps of the show and talking dirty about Cox. One thing is for sure: if “The Cougar” with Vivica A. Fox couldn’t kill America’s obsession, then HC declares hunting season to be open!
